| Stor Amhran - A Wealth Of Songs From The Irish Tradition |
|
| Collections of traditional songs in Irish are rare. Stor Amhran - a wealth of songs from the Irish tradition, is unique in that it is the first book of songs in Irish collected and noted from one singer. The editor, Noirin Ni Riain is already well known in the field of sean-nos songs, both in the areas of creativity and criticism. The fifty songs notated here were learnt by her through personal contact with the musician Pilib O Laoghaire towards the end of his life. In addition to the detailed transcriptions, a definitive edition of texts and a literal translation is also also contained here, constituting a significant contribution to the growing international interest in Irish traditional music.
